TATTOO AFTERCARE
The Art of Healing
01
Recovery Derm Shield
Your tattoo will be covered with a Recovery Derm Shield bandage for the first 3–6 days.
During this time:
-
Seeing blood, ink, or plasma under the shield is normal; this is called an “ink sack.”
-
You don’t need to start aftercare yet.
-
Avoid direct sun on the tattoo and avoid submerging it in water (pools, baths, etc.) until healed.
02
Removing Your Derm Shield
Keep the bandage on for 3–6 days unless it leaks or becomes loose. If part of the tattoo is exposed sooner, remove the entire bandage.
Tips for removal:
-
A steamy shower often helps loosen the adhesive.
-
Ask for help from family or a friend for hard-to-reach areas.
03
After Derm Shield
Now the hands-on aftercare process starts. Proper cleaning and moisturization are key.
Daily care:
-
Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
-
Gently wash the tattoo 2–3 times a day with fragrance-free, mild antibacterial soap and lukewarm water.
-
Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub.
-
Apply a thin layer of AfterInked Tattoo Ointment you received. Morning, midday (optional), and before bed is usually enough.
Important: If the tattoo feels dry, apply more often; thin layers, not heavy.
04
General Do's and Don'ts
Do:
-
Keep the area clean and moisturized.
-
Wear loose clothing around the tattoo.
-
Use sunscreen after fully healed to protect your tattoo long-term.
Don’t:
-
Pick, scratch, or peel scabs.
-
Submerge your tattoo in water (pools, baths, lakes).
-
Expose it to direct sunlight before it’s healed.
-
Use products with fragrances or alcohol.
What to Expect While Healing
-
Flaking and peeling are normal. Allow dead skin to flake off naturally.
-
The tattoo may look cloudy or dull before it fully settles.
-
Full healing typically takes 4–6 weeks.
